Slave Zero: Exempt from all tolerance

15/03/10  ||  Habakuk

Ouch.

What kind of genre is this? Death/Thrash Metal? Taxi! Maybe Deathcore? I guess it’s something like that, given the semi-breakdowns strewn throughout. But hey, these aren’t the problem, in fact the best parts are probably some of the breakdowns. Does it help? You guessed it: No. There’s a reason while I gave this a short listen and then forgot about the whole thing for months and months before reviewing it. Here goes:

Wooly guitars buried in the mix meet hardcore shouts meet Dying Fetus waste disposal vocals and annoying high shrieks. Come on… why do all of your vocal styles have to suck? And why are the drums so prominent in the mix?
Do you know the kind of drumming that sounds liks a fucken ball on a chain attached to the rest of the sound? If not, listen to this album. It all works fine during the slower parts I guess, but when stuff is supposed to get faster or the blast beats come in, it just draaags. And suuucks. Cheesus Crust. Fire the drummer. (Actually they just did, apparently. Maybe next time, then.) Make sure you get rid of the producer, too. Or just do something else with your precious time. Go out and play Winnie Pooh or something, fuck a honey jar, I don’t care. Anything.

I’m sorry, I really hate to be too harsh with an aspiring bunch like these guys, but honestly, apart from a select few good riffs (ratio: one in two songs, max.), this shit is weak. There’s nothing funny about it, the guys don’t look like emos, the band name isn’t made of three words or a sentence, the music is far from great, but still not completely terrible, it’s just w e a k. Towards the end of the album it actually turns slightly better, I give ‘em that. Still, there’s no way this will stay on my computer. The cover sucks, too.

Do you want to know more? Fuck you and then some.
